Removable shelf kit
Equipment or Mug shelf for portable layouts!
OPERATING STUFF: Our group needed somewhere to put our paraphernalia when operating our modules. Otherwise the inevitable happens and uncouplers or spare throttles etc get put onto the scenic area of the module.
So I came up with an equipment shelf pocket with integral hooks that slots onto (or into) the 6mm backscene or module facia. It can also be hooked on and off using Screwfix flush mountings (not supplied). You could screw it in place , but frankly this is for portable layouts and that defeats the purpose.
MUGS LAW: Module operators are incredibly lazy! If they have a mug of coffee, inevitably it ends up on a module surface (road or platform, any vaguely flati-sh area ). Of course they shouldn't do it, but lazy is what lazy does! On the first outing of the equipment shelves - they found a new place to put their mugs. So rather than constantly moan, I have embraced MUGS LAWS and have made a smaller mug shelf. Traditional cup holders are of no use at all - British mugs have big handles!
A typical British mug of tea weighs in around 700g. So the shelf kits are cut from strong 4mm birch ply (none of yer MDF trash!), with plently of tabs, and doubled-up meaty sized hooks to take the weight of one or even 3 mugs on the longer shelf!
size details:
Equipment shelf: 10.5" x 3.5" internal shelf space.
Mug shelf: 4.75" x 3.5" internal shelf space.
Integral Hooks: each require a 10mm x 20mm square hole and are designed for 6mm (1/4") thick backscenes or facias.
You can saw off the hooks and use Screwfix flush mounts. (Screwfix part number 11423).
