On30/On3 13.5" GIRDER TURNTABLE KIT!
THE MOTOR HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM THE STANDARD KIT. Motor is readily available on ebay.
A 54ft bridge length capable of carrying the largest Bachmann On30 Locos without any nasty overhang.
On30 and On3 are standard variants
The kit has wooden wall options (as used in our smaller girder and gallows TTs) and also a plain wall option upon which you can build your own wall surface (concrete, rock, brick etc).
Drive train features
* Track power is taken to the rails via KHMs well-proven robust turning-plate assembly - which also transfers the rotional torque to the bridge via the 4mm primary shaft . This pre-assembled item includes continuous PCB contact rings for the best use with DCC. If used with a DCC reversing module, DCC loco decoder power will be continuous. The track power contacts are hard-gold-plated sprung plungers of a robust kind used in the electronics industry. Each rated at 3A.
* "EL CHEAPO" motor has a nominal 0.6 rpm at 12V. The motor drives the primary shaft directly using a shaft coupler. Motor can be controlled by a normal DCC decoder, or analog supply. It has plenty of power and can easily turn a 6 lb loco. there is usually enough friction in the system to hold the bridge still with the motor stopped, but the cheap motor itself has backlash and cannot do that by itself. Many modellers have used this cheap motor successfully for the last 8 years. Search ebay for "GW370 motor gearbox" or "0.6rpm motor gearbox". 2rpm also OK. There are usually lots of suppliers and price is around £10 to £15, often with free shipping.
The wheel housings have been designed to take the heavier weight of larger locos and sport double-flanged wheels with ball bearing races freely running on 3mm axles. The CAD designed housings set the wheels at the correct angle to sit neatly on the running rails.
The kit does not include bridge track - your own track can be fitted easily using its existing ties to set gauge, or you can spike your own rail in place. The version of gauge only affects the decking widths.
The turntable body components are laser-cut poplar ply, birch microply and laserply, with laser-cut bass crossbeams and a deck surface of laser-cut basswood representing approximately 9inch timbers in 1/48 scale. the kit has handrails made from piano wire to keep them robust and perfectly straight.
The circular running track (rail included) is built up from a jig (included) that is really easy to get perfectly circular and centred. Yes really! Even a complete soldering beginner will find it simple.
