Product Description

OO 70ft TURNTABLE KIT

This kit is "pre-order using the contact us page, pay when kit is ready"

Turntable bridge length = 285mm.  Suitable for large 4-6-2 pacific locomotives.

This is a generic UK 70ft turntable design. While the kit does take several of it design cues from the original 70ft turntable at Doncaster, Rivet Counters beware - it does not follow any particular prototype. This means it will not be out of place on your OO layout no mater what area of the UK you are modelling.

CHEAP MOTOR IS NOT SUPPLIED WITH THIS KIT. Motors are on ebay. Search for 0.6rpm motor gearbox. Typically less than £15

Easy to assemble. Mostly glued construction. step by step instructions with many photos.

The turntable is designed to take a GW370 style 0.6RPM motor+gearbox.  This high-torque low current motor is rated at 0.6RPM at 12V and is directly coupled to the shaft with a shaft coupler.  Its best to run it from a DC variable supply, (or DCC loco decoder) so it can be reduced in speed to "extremely slow" for easy alignment with the tracks.

The turntable has sprung plunger contacts for reliable power-routing of the bridge rails - a robust type used by the electronics industry.

The turntable features continuous power-routing for best DCC operation (it is not a split ring design). Polarity can be changed with a DPDT switch for analog DC. Wiring instructions and schematics are included in the instructions.

Bridge rail:  the kit does not include rail for the bridge - your own track can be fitted easily within the subdeck using its existing sleepers to set gauge, or you can mount individual rail chairs and rail onto the bridge deck.

The turntable body components are laser-cut poplar ply, birch microply and laserboard. The turntable pit is built up from birch and poplar plywood laser-cut parts.

The shaft comes in a pre-assembled subassembly called the "turning plate". This is is the same proven design as my other turntables with 1000s manufactured over the last 14 years. The assembly consists of 4mm steel shaft, glued and pinned into a milled brass T piece, mounted on to a ply mounting plate at the centre of the turntable bridge. its completely rigid and cannot slip!

The circular running track (code 75 rail included) is built up using a jig (included) that is really easy to get perfectly circular and centred. Yes really! Even a complete soldering beginner will find it simple. 1000s of customers have done this with my other turntables.

The supporting wheels are double-flanged 12mm diameter 3D printed nylon. These track the circle rail allowing for more assembly tolerance. They fit into the laser cut wheel housings that align them at the correct angle. CAD designed, they sit neatly on the circle rail.

Pdf Instructions are emailed to you soon after ordering. If you want to see them first to get better idea of the kit please contact me - no obligation, electrons are free
