NG7 Penrhyn fullersite Wagon
LASER CUT KIT. PACK OF 3. not available separately.
Wheels and couplers not included.
Fullersite was slate waste ground into powder. It was used in paint manufacture, on felt roofing, and as a polishing powder. At Penrhyn this was big business and needed a lot of wagons for moving sacks of fullersite to the port or rail head.
The prototypes were quite small wagons with 3ft 3" wheel centres and 8ft 6" long. The model faithfully replicates the correct length and features, but is wider to accommodate 16.5mm gauge wheelsets.
The prototypes had 14", 8 curved spoke wheels. The chassis will take 8mm, 9mm, up to 10.5mm wheelsets with 26mm or 25mm diameter axles so can use a wide variety of available options. Alan Gibson 10.5mm curly spoke wheels, Evermodel 33" HO scale, and Kadee 28" HO wheelsets have been used in the pilot builds. There are brass pin point bearings supplied with the kit, but wheels are not included. EDM models (NG Trains) have just released fullersite 8-curved spoke wheels - use the 26mm axle option.
Designed with Kadee couplers in mind for the end of rakes, but plenty of space for use with other couplers and an insert for hook and chain coupling that fits into the Kadee draft box hole is provided in the kit.
There is a good space in the chassis for additional weight, without the need to hide it in a load.
Features a microply and 0.6mm laserboard to build a tough rigid chassis, and uses microply for the wooden sides and laserboard for the metal parts of body. Nothing looks more like wood than wood!
While the drop sides are non-working, hinge and securing pin detail is included in the kit, as is the drop bar on both sides.
Rivets are laser engraved and the kit includes the internal L section detail of the prototype.
