Product Description

On2/On30 9" (36ft) Truss Turntable kit.

The motor is no longer included with this kit, but the shaft coupler, motor mount and motor screws are included. The motor is readily available on ebay, Search "0.6rpm gearbox motor" - £10-£15 from several sources, often with free shipping.

This truss turntable kit will make one of 3 variants found on Maine railroads of the early 20th century.  if you are only running Forneys or smaller, then the 9" will do just fine. If you need longer, then choose the 11.25" 45ft turntable. Note the 10.5" (42ft) variant has been stopped.

Basic dimensions in images below..

The bridge is built up on a integral jig making for easy alignment. All parts that require angles, cutouts, cross joins are laser cut from  basswood to ensure the correct size, alignment and make assembly straight forward.

bridge detail includes laser cut square nuts, several sizes of washer as well as truss, spars and cabling.

The spider is simple and effective. Rather than create a complicated mechanism that costs a lot but cant really be seen, I have "suggested" the spider ring, and this allows me to use KHM's standard turning plate and pick-up assembly methods within the "spider space".

The pit base design follows our existing 9" gallows turntable base: proven design and simple to assemble.

The bridge wheel assemblies are KHM's latest turntable wheel "technology". The angles are set by the assembly - its almost foolproof! wheels are 12mm brass, turned on KHMs lathe with double-flanges so the wheels track the circle rail.

Below the pit floor, the turntable is powered by a very capable 0.6rpm motor for smooth running and slow speed. When controlled with a variable supply (DC loco controller or a DCC loco decoder will do nicely) the speed can be reduced so a crawl so that alignment by eye is easy. no need for fancy expensive indexing! The primary driven axle turns in oil-bearing bronze bushes.

Bridge rail: for this kit I have decided not to include any bridge rail. fitting your own track is easy.

Assembly is straightforward and broken down into sub-assemblies. The kit is packed with this is mind, each sub-assembly having its own pack.

Instructions are mostly photos with lots of angles to take you through the build in a step by step fashion. They are no longer available as a printed option. Its takes lots of ink (cost), they are heavy (shipping).  You will be emailed instructions when I ship the product. if you wish to see them before purchase then I'm happy to send without any obligation... electrons are free :)
