Product Description

On30/On3 ash pit

Possibly one of the most vital "structures" in any steam era engine depot. Steam engines accumulate ash and cinders in the ash pan below their firebox, and its the ash pit where that is emptied. Not much more than a fireproof hole in the ground with some support for the rails.

I needed one for my roundhouse module and thought some others might find it useful.

Footprint is 5"long, 3" wide, and just under 1" deep.

On30 and On3 variants - select which one you need.

Laser cut from 2mm MDF with dowel and strip, it is easily scenically treated to look like a concrete casement with metal beams supporting the rails.  There are 2 drainage grates engraved into the base.

if you install install it into a slope, the side can be left out so your little people can shovel the ash out more easily. If like mine it has to be at ground level, then you can add a ramp, use a bucket hoist, or more simply they have to work even harder to shovel the ash into wheel barrows at shoulder height to empty the pit. It was always a tough, hot, dirty job!

This is an easy to make, low cost kit.  A "hole in the ground" doesn't have to be fancy :)
