Product Description

On30/On3 13.5" PIT TURNTABLE KIT!

THE MOTOR HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM THE STANDARD KIT. YOU HAVE TO "ADD" IT AS AN OPTION.

A 54ft bridge length capable of carrying the largest Bachmann On30 Locos without any nasty overhang.

On30 and On3 are  standard variants but I can cut decking for other gauges - please choose "other" and put in notes

Pit wall shown in the picture above is brick, but also included in the kit is a wooden wall options (as used in our smaller 9", 10.5" and galows TTs) and also a plain wall option upon which you can build your own wall surface (concrete, rock etc).

Drive train features

Track power is taken to the rails via KHMs well-proven robust turning-plate assembly - which also transfers the rotional torque to the bridge via the 4mm primary shaft . This pre-assembled item includes continuous PCB contact rings for the best use with DCC. If used with a DCC reversing module, DCC loco decoder power will be continuous. The track power contacts are hard-gold-plated sprung plungers of a robust kind used in the electronics industry. Each rated at 3A.

"EL CHEAPO" motor has a nominal 0.6 rpm at 12V. The motor drives the primary shaft directly using a shaft coupler. Motor can be controlled by a normal DCC decoder, or analog supply. It has plenty of power and can easily turn a 6 lb  loco. there is usually enough friction in the system to hold the bridge still with the motor stopped, but the cheap motor itself has backlash and cannot do that by itself. Many modellers have used this cheap motor successfully for the last 6 years accepting its limitations, but it isn't perfect.  If "add cheap motor" option shows "Unavailable" you can order the kit without the motor, and buy the cheap motor on ebay along with a 4mm to 6mm shaft coupler.

New KHM/ABC motor gearbox. This close tolerance gearbox designed especially by ABC for use with KHM TTs is coupled to a quiet motor. it has smooth slow operation, virtually no backlash, and holds the bridge still when it is stopped. It needs to be ordered separately from me when its ready (expected end October 2020) and can be retrofitted to any KHM Oscale turntable.

*  ADM INDEXING SYSTEM :  I have an adapter for ADM's superb indexing system - I have one myself - great "play value". With the adapter the ADM system can be retrofitted to your existing turntable. It will work with ADM's HO drive system (or O scale kitwood version). ask me for more info if you want to go down this route.  Adpater is £20, the ADM indexing system is £425. ADM system comes ready to go and can be ordered from ADM Turntables. It has "Rolls Royce" performance and quality worthy of its price tag!

"El Cheapo" motor is shown below but this is only available as an option (when I have motors available). The standard kit has a simple boss to hold the 4mm primary shaft in place.

The wheel housings have been redesigned to take the heavier weight and sport double-flanged wheels with ball bearing races freely running on 3mm axles. The CAD designed housings set the wheels at the correct angle to sit neatly on the running rails.

The kit does not include bridge track - your own track can be fitted easily using its existing ties to set gauge, or you can spike your own rail in place. The version of guage only affects the decking widths.

The turntable body components are laser-cut poplar ply, birch microply and laserply, with laser-cut bass crossbeams and a deck surface of laser-cut basswood representing approximately 9inch timbers in 1/48 scale. the kit has handrails made from piano wire to keep them robust and perfectly straight.

The circular running track (rail included) is built up from a jig (included) that is really easy to get perfectly circular and centred. Yes really! Even a complete soldering beginner will find it simple.

Pdf Instructions will be emailed to you soon after ordering. If you want to see them first to get better idea of the kit please contact me - no obligation, electrons are free :)

  1. Excellent centre piece for my engine yard 5 Star Review

Kit goes together well, looks the part, and with a DCC decoder to control the motor does not need indexing. It runs at a convincing speed and can be slowed right down to achieve perfect alignment.
